Eliminate Pop-ups
How do I get rid of annoying pop-ups?
The most effective way is to install one of the toolbars offered with Google, anti-virus programs and Internet browsers.
Older solutions for various operating systems included:
In windows 2000:
Click Start->Programs->AdministrativeTools->Services
Scroll down and highlight “Messenger”
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows XP:
ClickStart->Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services
Scroll down and highlight “Messenger”
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows 98/ME:
Remove the file and printer sharing from your network configuration
OR, you might try an excellent freeware program offered by Panicware (www.panicware.com ) called “Pop-up Stopper” which is quite effective.
OR….and this is very effective….if you use Interent Explorer for your browser, download and install the google toolbar add in. Go to http://google.com and look for the “more” link and then look for the “Google Toolbar” under the “Tools” heading.
Remember, however, that “pop-ups” are becoming more popular in regular webpages for additional information and various programs such as Java script use “pop-ups” to display important information. If a website doesn’t show all information you expected, it may be because your popups were disabled. Set your controls to notify you so you can choose to see popups if you wish.
